Residential Knox Boxes

The Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District offers a Residential Knox Box Program designed to provide firefighters and paramedics with quick, secure access to a home during an emergency. A Knox Box is a high-security, tamper-resistant key box installed outside the residence that holds a key to the home. Only fire district personnel have the master key to open it.

This program is especially helpful for residents who live alone, have medical or mobility challenges, or may be unable to answer the door quickly in an emergency. By using a Knox Box, emergency responders can gain rapid access without forcing entry, helping to reduce property damage and response time while also increasing the safety of both residents and responders.

Residents interested in participating can purchase a residential Knox Box directly from The Knox Company’s website.

When ordering, be sure to select “Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District” as your local agency. Select which Knox Box(s) you would like to order and for what address. We will receive an email and will either approve or deny the request. Once approved, you will receive an email with a secure link to the shopping cart to complete the transaction. We will receive an email when the order has been shipped. Knox Box(s) will be shipped directly to you.
Once purchased, the box must be installed five feet above the ground and mounted near the front entrance of the home, unless an alternate location is approved by the Fire Prevention Bureau. The secure installation ensures responders can quickly locate and access the box when seconds matter most.
