Fire District Appoints Chief
On March 1, 2008, the Darien-Woodridge Fire District appointed Assistant Chief Wayne Messenger as Fire Chief, which fills a position vacated since July 1, 2007, when Chief Robert Tinucci retired.
Messenger
is 49 years old, and has spent his career at the Darien-Woodridge Fire District.
He began as a paid-on-call member in 1977, and joined the career ranks in 1980.
He began his career as a firefighter, and rose through all positions. Prior to
being named Fire Chief he was the Assistant Chief.
Fire District Trustees state “Chief Messenger’s integrity, attitude and the care to do what is right for our personnel and the residents we serve are his greatest attributes.” The Trustees decided to not seek candidates from the outside, stating “It is the Board’s intention to promote from within as long as there are highly qualified personnel.” Messenger is certified as a Fire Officer 2 through the Office of the State Fire Marshal, and is a provisional Fire Officer 3.
One
of Chief Messenger's main goals will be to develop a five year strategic plan by
the end of 2008. He also intends to continue the District’s desire for open
communication with the fire service personnel and residents of the Darien-Woodridge
Fire District.
