Protect Your Family From Fire

Fire Prevention Week 2011 focuses on keeping your family safet from fire. Over 3,000 people die annual in fires. Over 85% of those die in residential occupancies. Take time to learn how to protect your family in the place they may mistaken feel is the most secure - their home.

2011 Fire prevention Week

The Darien-Woodridge Fire District

Open House

Saturday Oct 1, 2011, from 10 AM - 2 PM

Station 1 located at 7550 Lyman Avenue in Darien

Fire engines and an ambulance will be available for people to see and even sit in. Firefighter gear will also be available to try on, so bring a camera! Also on display will be fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors. Adults can get their blood pressure taken, and kids will have games to play. On display will be “Things That Burn”, a collection of items damaged from fires. There will also be a fire pole the kids can slide down! We will also simulate extricating a person from a vehicle accident, responding to a building fire, and rescuing someone stuck high above the ground.

In addition to the Fire District there will be other displays from NICOR, Good Samaritan Hospital , and the Darien Police Department.

There will be plenty of handouts available for everyone, and light refreshments will be available.

Visit www.firepreventionweek.org for additional facts, resources and fire safety information.
